William F. Martin

William F. Martin, 91, of Pekin, IL passed away at 10:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015 at Pekin Manor. Bill was born on February 1, 1923 in Peoria, IL to George W. and Laura (Johnson) Martin. He married Willa Dean Copeland on September 28, 1945 in Peoria. Preceding in death are his parents, one daughter-in-law, Julie A. Martin, one son-in-law, Frank L. Shanklin and one sister, Helen DeVoss. Surviving is: his wife, Willa Dean of Pekin; one son, Steve (Stacy) Martin of Pekin; two daughters, Vickie Shanklin, of North Pekin and Debra Martin Null Washington, IL; five grandchildren, Keri, Kai, Adam, Frank and Kevin; six great grandchildren, Dalton, Kynzie, Ethan, Nolan, Cole and Chase and one step granddaughter, Heidi Schillinger of Edwardsville, IL. Bill was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. He was a machinist at Caterpillar, Inc. retiring in 1982. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local #974, Creve Coeur VFW Post #4835 and American Legion Post # 1234 and the Greater Pekin Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling and was a diehard Cubs fan. Bill had a love for music and singing. He had sang in the USO. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with Rev. Tony Darr officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday, January 20 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Peoria Honor Flight.
