Warren R. Freidinger, 92, of Pekin passed away at 3:40 AM Sunday, December 01, 2013 at Pekin Manor. Warren was born December 16, 1920 in Groveland Township at the Freidinger family farm, the son of Edward C. and Lydia A. (Hillman) Freidinger. He married Norma (Deppert) Evans on November 9, 1947 in Pekin. She passed away on February 14, 2007. Warren was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Merlin Freidinger and one sister Ila Mae Jenkins. He is survived by two sons; David (Karen) Evans of Pekin and Mark W. (Bette) Freidinger of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandsons, Dr. Brad (Molly) Freidinger of Concord, NC, B.J. Freidinger of Winston-Salem, NC and Zachary Evans of Manito, IL; eight great grandchildren, William, Charles, and Nathan Freidinger, Robyn, Aaron, Cody, Jonah and Jace Evans; two sisters-in-law, Viola Deppert and Marge Deppert both of Pekin. Warren was a United States Army veteran of WWII and one of the Greatest Generation. He served as a Staff Sargent of the 104th Infantry Division, The Timberwolves who were the first to meet Russian soldiers. His division held a record for 195 consecutive days under fire of the enemy. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and had served as a Sunday school teacher, Church Council member and Churchmen's Brotherhood. He was a member of the Pekin Elks Lodge and Peoria Camera Club. Retiring from Fleming Potter Company in 1984, he was a film artist (Lithographer) and cameraman. He was a skilled wood worker and refinished furniture and caned chairs for many years. Warren was an avid fisherman. He and his wife, Norma and their family enjoyed more than fifty years traveling to Nokay Lake in Minnesota. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Steve Welker officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday December 4 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. and from 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM Thursday at the church. Pekin. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
