Walker V. Fox

Walker V. Fox, 90, of Marquette Heights passed away at 10:40 am Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 7, 1923 in Mountain Home, Arkansas to Virgil and Kari (Nelson) Fox. He married Edna 'Dean' Lovel on May 7, 1946 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Surviving is: his wife, Edna'Dean' of Marquette Heights; two sons, Phillip (Pat) Fox of Pekin, Gary (Janet) Fox of Greencastle, IN; six daughters, Wanda (Frank) Sanders of Pekin, JoAnn (Dan) Beers of Pekin, Phyllis (Vern) Mura of Delavan, Pamela (Rick) Emerson of Pekin, Donna (Roger) Smith of Pekin, and Cathy (Mark) Alvey of Glasford;one sister, Margie Larue Romanat of Collinsville, IL; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Walker was a veteran of World War II serving as an Army Aircorps Technician in Italy and earning two bronze stars.He was employed in the maintenance department at Caterpillar for 30 years. Walker was an avid camper, fisherman, vegetable gardner and family man, as well as a die-hard St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He was an Amateur (ham) Radio General Class Operator since 1975.He loved old country western and big band music. He especially enjoyed all the large family gatherings he attended through his life.He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a great provider for his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.Friday, March 21, 2014 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Drive, Pekin with Pastor Dan Larimore officiating. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton with military honors provided by the Glasford American Legion Post 35 and the United States Army. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to OSF Home Hospice, or the American Legion Post 35 Glasford Veteran's Fund.
