W. John Brecher

W. John Brecher, 95, of Pekin passed away at 9:45 AM Friday, July 17, 2015 at his home. John was born on January 2, 1920 in Pekin to Walter and Annie (Eitenmiller) Brecher. He married Wilma Hayes on June 12, 1941 in Pekin. She passed away April 22, 2010. Also preceding in death are his parents and one son, Gary Brecher. Surviving are: one daughter, Bonnie (Andrew) Kordik of Coal Valley, IL; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brecher of Little Valley, NY; two grandchildren, Zak and Abbe Kordik both of Chicago, IL. John was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the St. Paul Choir. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. Softball was a major part of John's life. He was a player, coach and worked as an umpire until he was 82. He was inducted into the Illinois State Softball Hall of Fame. He also was an avid tennis player. John worked in the planning department at Caterpillar for 30 years and was a real estate agent for 28 years. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Brian Byrne officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Pekin Park Foundation or St. Paul United Church of Christ.
