Virginia M. Conner

Virginia M. Conner, 102, a lifelong Illinois resident of Pekin and Marquette Heights, passed away at 4:20 pm Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski, Illinois. Virginia was born January 14, 1922, in Pekin, Illinois to Henry W. & Martha (Schmidgall) Schroeder, and married Charles E. (Ki) Conner of Peoria, Illinois on December 6, 1945, in Pekin. Her husband preceded her in death in February, 1993,as did one brother (Bill Schroeder) and two sisters (Helen Godby and Ruth Herrman). Ginny is survived by a son, David (wife Carol), of North Port, Florida; two grandsons, Scott (wife Jessica) of Woodstock, Illinois and Kevin (wife Christy) of Williamsville, Illinois; and four step-grandsons, J.J, Adam, Michael and Tedd Hawks. Also surviving is one sister, Johanna (Phil) Peterson of Bloomington, Illinois. She has thirteen great grandchildren. She attended Pekin schools, graduating from Pekin High School in 1940. She was confirmed in, and was a long-time member of, St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin, where she served as a past secretary & treasurer of the Womens Fellowship. She belonged to the J.O.Y. Society. After graduation, she worked for a doctor, and then for Pekin Insurance Company, retiring in 1984, after having served in the capacity of secretary and supervisor. She was a past president of the Pekin Insurance Retirement Club. She was active in bowling for many years and was the recipient of many awards. Also, she was a golfer in the Fondulac Ladies Golf League in East Peoria. As per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service which will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr, Pekin with Rev. Heather Robertson officiating, followed by burial at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Church in Pekin, Illinois, or to a charity of the donors choice.
