Virgil Schmidt

Virgil R. Schmidt 87 of Pekin passed away at 4:26 am Friday, November 21, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Virgil was born June 20, 1927 in Pekin to Robert and Eva (Ritthaler) Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Verla Schoen. He is survived by Carole 'Kae' Curry, who he shared his life with for the past 22 years; nephews, Kevin (Stephanie)Schoen of East Peoria, Garry (Karen) Schoen of Marco Island, FL, Ron Schoen of East Peoria; one stepson, Brian (Cheri) Besson of Pekin; two step grandsons, Brandon Jackson and Tyler Besson of Pekin. Virgil's life revolved around farming and until retirement he farmed near Tremont. He was a member of Tazewell County Farm Bureau. He was active in the Wellness Center at Pekin Hospital since 1996. He was Korean War Army veteran. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin with Rev. Judy Doyle officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Memorials may be directed to the Wellness Center at Pekin Hospital or the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
