Vera Agnes Wallinger, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 7:27 AM, Saturday, June 17, 2017 at UnityPoint Health Pekin. Vera was born February 3, 1929 in Pekin to Otto and Minnie (Burkhardt) Turner. She married James Wallinger on February 15, 1948 in Pekin. He passed away March 8, 2011 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, one son, Mark Steven, three sisters, Eloise, Zypha, and Helen, and one brother, Virgil. Surviving are: two sons, William (Pamela) Wallinger of Morton, IL and David (Anita) Wallinger of Meridian, Idaho; four grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Montalto of Portland OR., Andrew (Sara) Wallinger of Aurora, CO., Erin (Joel) Smith of St. Louis, MO. and Sean (Christine) Wallinger of Parker, CO.; and seven great grandchildren, Samantha and Sophia Smith, Halle and Kaley Wallinger, Margo Wallinger, and Nora and Grayson Montalto. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church where she was a member of the Ester Circle. Vera had worked at Pekin Hospital in medical records. She was a lifetime Pekin resident. She volunteered at the Pekin Hospital League, working both at The Nearly Nu Shop, and the Hospital Gift Shop. She and her husband were elected to be Grand Marshalls of the Pekin Winter Wonderland, and she had served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. 'Aunt Doc' as she was better known by relatives, enjoyed traveling with her husband Jim in their later years, including several Cruises and visiting family around the country. She also enjoyed coming home to spend time on the farm. Vera was famous for her Raspberry Cobbler, made with her handpicked raspberries from their farm. Vera's greatest love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, that love was closely followed by her joy of knitting and crocheting. Her memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday June 24, 2017 at First Christian Church, 1201 Chestnut St, Pekin, with Rev. Hank Anderson officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, June 23, 2017 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Drive, Pekin. Private inurnment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church - Christian Care.
