Thomas P. Morrissey, 72, of Pekin, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 20, 1952, in Champaign, IL, to Thomas Paul and Phyllis Ann (Vance) Morrissey, Tom lived a vibrant life filled with devotion, creativity, and a deep commitment to those around him. On September 1, 1990, he married his soulmate, Jennifer Sanguedolce, in Pekin, building a life together rooted in love, shared laughter, and mutual support.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Thomas Paul and Phyllis Ann Morrissey. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jenny, of Pekin; his cherished daughter, Eilish Morrissey, of Cedar Rapids, IA; and his dear sister, Ann (Krail) Lattig, of Chatham, IL. His family was the heart of his world, and his unwavering love and encouragement will remain a guiding light for them.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Tom served his country with honor before dedicating 43 years as a crane operator for Mosaic in Peoria, retiring in 2022. His strong work ethic and camaraderie earned him the respect and affection of his colleagues. A faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tom found strength in his faith, which shaped his compassionate and generous spirit.
Known for his infectious enthusiasm, Tom was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, rarely missing a game and always ready to share his spirited commentary on the teams triumphs and challenges. His creative soul found expression in poetry, where he wove words with wit and insight, capturing lifes beauty in heartfelt verses. As a coach, Tom was a mentor and inspiration, dedicating over a decade to coaching boys and girls basketball at St. Joseph Catholic School, as well as his daughter Eilishs basketball and softball teams. His patience, encouragement, and belief in his players left an enduring impact, shaping young lives with lessons of teamwork and perseverance.
Toms love for life extended to his hobbies. His woodworking creations, crafted with skill and care, will be treasured keepsakes for his family. His garden flourished under his attentive hands, yielding vibrant flowers and vegetables that he shared generously with neighbors and friends. An avid fisherman and golfer, Tom cherished time spent outdoors, whether casting a line by a serene stream or enjoying a sunny day on the golf course, often accompanied by his warm smile and quick humor that brightened any gathering.
A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin, followed by a visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service, officiated by Father Daniel Dionesotes, will begin at 3:00 PM. Cremation has been accorded, per Toms wishes.
