Steven C. Mefford

Steven C. 'Stevie' Mefford Jr., 45, of Pekin passed away at 3:24 PM Friday, May 1, 2015 in the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Stevie was born on July 19, 1969 in Pekin, IL to Steve and Norma Jean (Rossi) Mefford Sr.He married Amy Underwood on September 29, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Peoria. Surviving are: his wife, Amy of Pekin; his parents, Steve Sr. and Norma of Pekin; three daughters, McKenna, Sophie and Stella Mefford of Pekin; one brother, Lucas (Robin) Mefford of Pekin; one sister, Andrea (Adam) Stokes of Skokie, IL; seven nephews, Nathan and Noah Mefford, Jaden Underwood and Calvin Peart, Nicholas, Keelan and William Stokes; three aunts, Dianne Rossi, LeAnn Rossi and Sue Mefford. Stevie was a 1987 graduate of Spalding High School and a 1992 graduate of Bradley University. He was employed at RK Dixon, last working on April 29. Stevie was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Peoria and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pekin. Stevie loved sports, mainly basketball and baseball. In the past, he coached girls' basketball at St. Joseph School. More recently, he and Amy started their girls in basketball and other activities. He was a lifelong Cub fan. Most importantly, Stevie loved spending time with his family and planning for holidays and special occasions, including vacations. He was always concerned with carrying on family traditions, especially through his love of cooking. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin, IL. A Prayer service will be at 4:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Pekin with Father Michael Andrejek as main celebrant, Monsignor Tim Nolan and Father Terry Cassidy as concelebrants, and Deacon Gregory Luigi Serangeli as homilist. The ceremony will be preceded by a short visitation from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM. Burial will be St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
