Stephen J. Kurtz

Stephen J. Kurtz, 66, of Pekin, IL passed away at 4:18 AM Monday, December 2, 2024 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Stephen was born on March 10, 1958 in Morris, IL to Kenneth and Ardyce (Hornsby) Kurtz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Kurtz, Ardyce Cohenour and step father, Richard Cohenour. Surviving are: one brother, Kevin Kurtz of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Karyn (Bryan) Dean of Martin, TN and Lisa (Jeff) Bargar of Clinton, KY; nieces and nephews, Krista Ferguson, Noah Dean, Jacob Dean, Shannon Carle, Sharee Bargar and Ryan Sieh. Stephen graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1976 and he pursued a liberal arts degree from Northern Illinois University. Stephen attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman especially hiking and camping. He was a movie buff and an avid reader. He was in the Peoria Players in 80s and 90" s. A celebration of life will be held at a later date with interment in Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. Cremation has been accorded. Stephens arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory.
