Shirley J. Ward

Shirley Ward 84 of Pekin passed away and went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:01 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at her home. She was born June 5, 1930 in Augusta, IL to Leonard James and Dorothy (Davis) Pratt.She married Barnett Crabtree Jr. January 21, 1948.He passed away on November 6, 1955. Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother. She is survived by three sons; Paul Crabtree of Portland, OR, David (Janet) Crabtree of Athens, IL, Michael (Penny Ray) Crabtree of Washington, DC; two grandchildren Kyle and Kelly Crabtree of Washington, DC. She retired from Pekin Insurance in 1993 after 20 years of service.She had previously worked for Bergner's downtown Peoria and Pekin Credit Union. Shirley was an Adult Literacy tutor from 1994-2007. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served in the children's ministries, Foreverland on Sunday mornings and Town Square on Wednesday nights as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed the Senior Ministries of her church especially the bus trips. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Friday officiating.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service on Saturday at her church.Private burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting Shirley's family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or Peoria Rescue Ministries.
