Sharon J. Mcmillan

Sharon J. McMillan, 83 of Pekin passed away at 7:55 pm, Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at her home at Villas of Holly Brook in Pekin surrounded by family. She was born to Melvin and Vera Jean (Patterson) Renner on August 29, 1940. She married Howard K. McMillan on March 25, 1957 in Holly Springs, MS. They were married for 64 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2021. Sharon was also preceded in death by; her parents; and three brother-in-laws Dennis McMillan, David McMillan, James McMillan. Surviving are: two sons, Kevin (Sue) McMillan of Pekin and Kenneth (Barbara) McMillan of Ponte Vedra, FL; three grandchildren, Rene (Jason) Herberger of Pekin, Tiffany (Robert) Gailliaert of Bartonville, and Khristine (Jeff Irons) McMillan of Pekin; five great grandchildren, Cooper (Lane Genzen), Caylee and Carley Herberger, Isabella and Violet Gailliaert; one great great-grandchild, Gavin Herberger; and two sisters, Stormy Lee Vanderhouten of Castle Rock, WA. And Edith McGuiness of Kansas City, MO Sharon was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin. She volunteered at Pekin Hospital over 6000 hours. She was a Den Mother and received the Silver Fawn for outstanding service by lady Scouters for her over 30 years of service. She worked as a volunteer tutor with the YWCA Adult Literacy & Learning Program, she taught others how to read for many years. She was an avid quilter, she hand stitching all her quilts, enjoyed crafting, knitting, tatting and lace making, crochet, and also taught lace making. She and her husband Howard loved their annual trips to see the wildflower blooms. Together, they worked on their beautiful floral garden in their backyard. She enjoyed camping, canoeing, and fishing with her family. Sharon was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She treasured her family and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, October 9, 2023 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr. in Pekin with Rev. Heather Robertson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior from 12:00 1:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Forest Park Nature Center or T.A.P.S.
