Ronald R. Hurst

Ronald R. Hurst, 68, of Peoria, IL passed away at 2:33 AM Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Ron was born on December 21, 1944 in Canton, IL to Raymond L. and Audrey A. (Crick) Hurst. He married Karen Bair Shaw on July 10, 1993 in Pekin, IL. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving are: his wife, Karen of Peoria; three sons, Bryan (Heather) Hurst of Peoria, Matthew (Maureen) Shaw of Oviedo, FL and Mark Shaw of Washington, IL; two daughters, Rhonda (John) Burright of Rockford, IL and Monica Hurst of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Madison Hurst, Jessica and Joshua Burright, Morgan, Mariah, Callie and Natalie Shaw and Matthew Shaw II; one brother, Dennis Hurst of Canton, IL. Ron was a computer programmer for Caterpillar Inc. for 34 years retiring in 2002. Ron was also a computer educator with Caterpillar teaching computer programming. Ron was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pekin. He was also a former treasuer of his church. He sang in the Peoria Area Civic Choral for 13 years and was a member of the Morton Messiah Choir and a choir member of his church. He had sung since he was in the 2nd grade.Ron was a past secretary of the Circus Model Builders Organization and the Backstein Circus Ring #72. He was an avid fan of the circus and enjoyed making models. He and Karen loved to travel. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Judy Doyle officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with Ron's arrangements.
