Ronald W. Boehm, 81, of Pekin, IL passed away at 6:00 AM Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Pekin Manor. Ron was born on August 28, 1932 in Rushville, IL to William and Florence (Taylor) Boehm. He married Betty Ruth Beabout on June 20, 1954 at St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia, IL. Ron was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, his son, Timothy (Maura)Boehm of Annapolis, MD; and his daughter, Kimberly (Vince) Falone of Chatham, NJ; and his grandchildren, Mary and Sarah Boehm of Annapolis and Grace, Sam and Cassandra of Chatham. Ron graduated from Rushville High School in 1950 and then attended Monmouth College where he played basketball for the Fighting Scots and was active in Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He began his teaching career in Greenview and Virden High Schools. He joined the Social Studies Department at Pekin High School in 1960 and served as department chairman from 1966 until 1985 when he became West Campus principal. He received masters' degrees in education administration and economics from the University of Illinois. He also taught economics for twenty years at Illinois Central College. In 1991 he was honored by the Tazewell County High School Administrators Association for thirty-one years of service to its youth. He was a member of the National Social Studies Organization and served as its state president. Ron became a Mason in 1955 and a perpetual member of the Rushville Lodge. Community activities included the local Zoning Board of Appeals, treasurer of the Pekin Kiwanis, involvement in Channel 47, Red Cross blood donor (including over 100 platelet donations), a Pekin Library and YWCA supporter, and Pekin Hospital escort. His greatest interest was with St. Paul United Church of Christ where he taught Sunday school, served on the church board, chaired many committees and was president of the Churchmen's Fellowship. Ron followed the Cardinals and enjoyed traveling, swimming, golf and bicycling. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 18, 2014 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Steve Welker officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, January 17 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin and from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be at later date in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Monmouth College.
