Roland G. Hagmann, a man defined by his devotion to family and a lifelong love of animals, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Hallmark Nursing Home. He was surrounded by the love of his family during his final moments.
Born on October 25, 1941, in Heilbronn, Germany, Roland’s early life was marked by the upheaval of the era. The son of Gustav and Elsa (Kammerer) Hagmann, his life was forever changed when his father went missing in action during the war. Seeking a new beginning, Roland and his mother immigrated to the United States. Following her remarriage, he was raised with care and guidance by his mother and his stepfather, Gustav Schmidgall.
The cornerstone of Roland’s life was his 58-year marriage to his beloved wife, Linda (Evans) Hagmann. The two were wed on December 30, 1967, in Groveland, beginning a nearly six-decade journey of partnership and shared dreams.
Linda survives, along with are his daughters, Rhonda Haley of Pekin and Sherrie (Shawn) Keller of North Pekin; and four grandchildren, Kevin Haley, Jr, Marissa and Madissen Haley and Ryan Keller.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.
Roland worked at Caterpillar for 30 years. In his youth, he was a natural athlete, spending his high school years on the football and baseball fields. As he grew older, he traded the stadium lights for the quiet of the outdoors, where he found peace hunting and the camaraderie of local league bowling. However, Roland and Linda were perhaps best known for their deep involvement in the world of purebred dogs. Together, they spent decades raising and showing Doberman Pinschers, a passion that allowed them to travel, compete, and build a community of lifelong friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will take place from 11a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home, prior to the service. Roland will be laid to rest at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin, where he will be honored with military honors, reflecting his service and dedication to his country.
Memorials may be made to Doberman Pinscher Club of America.
