Robert L. Zimmerman

Robert L. Zimmerman, 96 of Pekin, formerly of Manito, passed away at 7:53 pm, Monday, October 17, 2011 at Timbercreek Rehab and Healthcare in Pekin. Robert was born February 16, 1915 in Waldron, MI to Moses M. and Nellie N. (Bartels) Zimmerman.He married Marcella E. Costello on April 17, 1948. Surviving are his wife, Marcella; two sons, James N. Zimmerman of Peoria, Robert L. (Pamela)Zimmerman of Parker, CO; one brother, Nelson (Lois) Zimmerman of York, PA; one sister, Opal Williams of Pekin; three grandchildren, Joy, Laura and David Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters. He was an accountant for Caterpillar for twenty five years retiring March 1, 1981.Robert also was a real estate broker for many years.He owned and operated a grocery store and apartments in Manito.He was a former member of the Caterpillar Camera Club and Peoria Camera Club, American Legion Post #561 (Hill-Palmer Post).He served the US Army during WWII. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin.Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service. Rev. Thomas Guengerich will officiate.Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens with military honors by the US Army and TACT Team.
