Robert George Schumm

Robert George Schumm, 96, of Manito, IL, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at The Lodge in Manito.

Born on August 3, 1929, in Pekin, IL, to George and Louise (Eitenmiller) Schumm, Bob lived a rich and fulfilling life rooted in faith, family, and the land. On August 20, 1950, he married his beloved Alpha Ethell in Manito, and together they built a life filled with love, adventure, and shared passions. Alpha preceded him in death on September 5, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Bob is survived by his son, Nile (Mickey) Schumm of Washington, IL; his daughter, Karen (Pete) Jacobson of Manito; six grandchildren, Sean (Kira) Schumm of Monmouth, IL, Jamie (Scott) Kammeyer of Manito, Andrea (Corey) Bennett of Merrill, WI, Kellie (Jim) Rumps of Bloomington, IL, Casey (Jenny) Schumm of Morton, IL, and Lindsay (Brian) Goetz of Elgin, IL; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in Tremont, Bob’s faith guided his life. He was a lifelong farmer in Manito, retiring in 1991, and was a proud member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Bob also found joy in fishing and hunting. He and Alpha shared a love for travel, exploring new places and spending 36 winters in Texas, creating cherished memories.

A funeral service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Josh Beutow officiating. A visitation will be held prior from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church in Tremont.
