Richard D. Wheat

Richard D. Wheat, 75 of Manito, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Rich was born March 13, 1948 in Peoria to Russel and Dorothy (Kolves) Wheat. He married Linda Rutter May 3, 1969. He is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Jenny Bucher of Summerfield, NC and Stephanie (Trent) Smith of Manito; four grandchildren, Logan (Tori) Smith, Taylor Smith, Austin Bucher, and Colton Bucher; one sister Linda (Dennis) Rexroad of Taylorville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a veteran with the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnams Veterans of Illinois life member #48. He was also a member of 3/5 CAV Fort Benning Georgia. Rich enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, boating, camping, traveling but most of all enjoyed attending his grandchildrens sporting events. He was employed at Caterpillar as a machine repair technician retiring in 2000. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 22, 2023 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with military honors. Private visitation will be held at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorials may be directed to Vietnam Veterans of Illinois 100 W.
