Richard "Dick" L. LaVallier, 82, of Pekin, IL, passed away peacefully at 2:30 PM on Friday, June 13, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL, surrounded by his family.
Dick was born on June 23, 1942, in Chenoa, IL, to Herbert and Fern (Rarick) LaVallier. On September 24, 1967, he married the love of his life, Janet Kuerth, in his hometown. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in faith in Christ, family, and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and one sister. Though his absence leaves a deep void, his memory will live on in those who survive him: his devoted wife of nearly 58 years, Janet; his son, Michael (Kami) LaVallier of Loudon, TN; his daughter, Angie (Mark) Bybee of Clever, MO; his cherished grandchildren, Kiersten and Kaden Bybee; and his sister, Marilyn Clements of Normal, IL. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Rich lived a life marked by loyalty, hard work, and a generous spirit. He spent 30 dedicated years working for Caterpillar, Inc. before retiring in 1996, later channeling his passion for carsespecially Corvettesinto 15 years of work at Morton Auto Auction. He found great joy in his work and the people he met along the way.
Rich attended Grace Presbyterian Church, where he and Janet worshipped faithfully. His enthusiasm for life was contagious and he never met a stranger. He loved cheering on the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks, playing a round of golf, and supporting local youth through the Tazewell County Youth Hockey Association. He enjoyed traveling and in his later years lived vicariously through the travel channel. But above all, he treasured time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his days.
Known for his quick wit, warm heart, and zest for life, Rich will be remembered as a man who gave his best to everything he did and everyone he loved.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor John Hopwood officiating. Military honors will follow, and inurnment will be held at a later date at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
