Richard H. Etter, 90, Peoria, Illinois, passed away at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home with his family by his side. The son of John Harmon and Mildred Lee (Elsea) Etter, Richard H. Etter was born on March 29, 1933, youngest of three sons, in Moberly, Missouri. Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and upon his return married Patricia Ann Sommer (now Palanza), of Peoria, Illinois. She survives along with his four children Crystal Etter of Trivoli , IL , Linda (Greg) Dissman of Woodstock, GA, Bruce Etter of Peoria, IL and Holly (Ralph) Johnson of Mound, MN, as well as six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren with another on the way. Upon returning from the war, Richard worked his entire career at CILCO, serving in positions ranging from a lineman, to the powerhouse, before ultimately retiring as the company photographer and audio-visual specialist, in 1995. Throughout his life, Richard had many hobbies and passions. He was a member of Saint Pauls Episcopal Church in Peoria. Richard traveled throughout the United States, visiting nearly every national park along the way, especially in the American West. These trips provided excellent material for another of his lifelong passions-- photography. In addition to photography, he spent his free time often engaged in woodworking, producing beautiful furniture, decorative, and scale model pieces, and throughout his lifetime had a deep love of all things chocolate. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family. In accordance with his wishes Cremation will be accorded by Henderson Funeral Home and crematory, and there will be no services.
