He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James K. Borden.

He is also survived by his granddaughters, Jada Lamprecht and Madeline Borden; his brother, David Borden of Bucyrus, Ohio; his sister, Diane Turnbough of New Lenox, Illinois; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Dwight graduated from Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox in 1965. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Elmhurst College in 1969 and his Master of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary in 1973. On June 10, 1973, he was ordained to Christian ministry at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Manhattan, Illinois.
Following his ordination, Dwight faithfully served congregations across Illinois and Missouri, including Zion U.C.C. in Troy, Missouri, and Friedens U.C.C. in Moscow Mills, Missouri (1973–1977); St. Paul U.C.C. in Kahoka, Missouri (1977–1983); The United Church of Byron, Illinois (1983–1995); and St. Paul U.C.C. in Pekin (1995–2013). After his official retirement in 2013, his commitment to ministry continued as he served as Interim Pastor at St. John U.C.C. in Minier, Illinois (2014–2015), and as part-time pastor of Bethel Memorial U.C.C. in Creve Coeur, Illinois (2016–2019).
Throughout his life, Dwight was deeply involved in both church and community. He was an active member of Kiwanis Clubs in Troy, Missouri; Kahoka, Missouri (where he served as President); Byron, Illinois; and Pekin, Illinois.
