Raymond 'Pete' H. Gerrietts, 89, of Green Valley, IL passed away at 2:10 pm Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Pekin Hospital. Pete was born April 26, 1918 in Green Valley to George and Bena Jacobs Gerrietts. He married Mary V. Larimore on May 11, 1940 in Green Valley. He was preceded in death by one son Larry Gerrietts, two son-in-laws Duane Curry and Jerry Canada, one daughter-in-law Barbara Gerrietts and one sister. Surviving are: his wife, Mary of Green Valley; three sons, Dale of Springfield, Ronald (and Ria) of Urbana and George (and Vivian) of Green Valley; three daughters, Darlene Curry, Susan (and Thomas) Hill and Mary Ann Canada all of Green Valley; daughter-in-law, Sharon Gerrietts of Pekin; seventeen grandchildren, Geoffrey, Gregory, Isaac (and Jenny), Lee (and Amy), Darren (and Miriam) and Scott (and Staci) Gerrietts, Jason (and Kelly) and Jim Canada, Joshua (and Xuan) and Jed Hill, Dina (and Greg) Janssen, Debbie Curry, Julie Stear, Marcie (and Bill) Lindsey, Stephanie (and Brian)Lutton, Jeri and Jenny Canada; eighteen great grandchildren. Pete was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Green Valley, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men, served as a trustee of the church and had been a Sunday school teacher. He had worked for Powerton for 25 years retiring in November 1982. He also had farmed. Pete served on the Green Valley School Board for 25 years, Sand Prairie Township Assessor for 28 years. He was a member of the Powerton Playboys and the Tazewell County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and always wanted to see the Northeast United States. He was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and woodworking. He often told people, 'IF you have seen the Rockies, you haven't seen anything until you have seen the Canadian Rockies.'
