Ray W. Johnson, 88 of Pekin passed away at OSF St. Francis in Peoria at 6:03am on Friday, June 5, 2015. Ray was born on August 23, 1926 in Pekin, IL to Herbert W. and Marie F. (Johnson) Johnson. He married Mary Anne Grant in 1951. He and Norma Sathoff were united in marriage on October 2, 1966 in Pekin. Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife Norma on December 23, 2014, and his brother Russell Johnson and sister Elnor Yergler. Surviving is: one son, Mark (Joann) Johnson of Red Wing, MN; three daughters, Rae Anne (Henry) Carpenter of Lake In The Hills, IL, Laurie Godby of Pekin, IL and Zita Palko of Morton, IL; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Ray, Ryan, Levi, Ben and Sam; three great grandchildren, Jillian, Joshua and Jacob. Ray was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. He worked at Caterpillar for 31 years as an advertising photographer, and was especially proud of his work in the film,'800 Miles Of Winter', the story of the Trans-Alaska project for which he received the National Industrial Award. He was an honorary member of the Kuala Lumpur Cricket Club. Ray was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and especially loved trap shooting competitions. He was a member of the World War II Civil Air Patrol and was drafted into the United States Army in the early days of the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Monday, June 8, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with Rev. Judy Steger-Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be 10:00am to 11:15am. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
