Ondel Bulifant

Ondel 'Del' Atwood Bulifant, 89, of Pekin, IL passed away at 12:20 PM on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Pekin Manor. Del was born on February 14, 1926 in Petersburg, VA to Forrest and Hettie (Perkinson) Bulifant. He married Mary Bzura on December 7, 1944 in Norfolk, VA. She passed away on September 6, 2010. Also preceding in death are his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are: two daughters, Sandra (Ernie) Whited of Pekin, IL and Phyllis (Dan) Ooley of Greenwood, IN; grandchildren, Cathy (Allan) Shawgo and Laura Percefull both of Pekin, Sarah (Rick) Towery of Manito, Chad (Heather) Rumsey of Indianapolis, IN and Amanda Rumsey of Indianapolis, IN; seven great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Del was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1943 - 1946. He served in the Pacific theater with the Amphibians Force aboard the USS LSM 256 Fighting Lady. Del worked at Sherex for thirty-three years retiring in 1996. He was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the LSM Association. He enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Andrejek, as celebrantand Father Scott Potthoff, as Homilist. Visitation will Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a Rosary service lead by Monsignor Timothy Nolan at 7:15 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul 303 S. 7th Street Pekin, Il 61554.
