Norma G. Venturi, 99 of Pekin, having received the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, passed away at 5:30 am, Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale. She was born to Ardonio & Angela (Poretti) Gherardini in Taylorville, IL on January 31, 1923. She married Joseph L. Venturi at St. Marys Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL on March 3, 1945. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2001. Norma was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother Albert Gherardini. She is survived by; three sons, Rick (Cheri) Venturi of Noblesville, IN, John (Pamela) Venturi of Morton, IL, and Thomas (Hle) Venturi of Marco Island, FL; one daughter, Susan (Allen) Johnson of Pekin; five grandchildren, Marin Venturi, Jason Venturi, Nicholas (Lyndsay) Venturi, Jacquelyn Johnson, and McKenzie Johnson (Kyle Gunther); five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ava, Austin, Rylie and Reagan Venturi; two sisters in laws, Donna Gherardini of Sullivan, IL and Norma Bota of Taylorville, IL; and two nieces and two nephews. Norma was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hopedale and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin before moving to Hopedale. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and a Lector. She volunteered at St. Joseph School, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Womens Honor Guard at funerals and the Resurrection Choir. Norma was also instrumental in sponsoring many members into Catholicism through the RCIA program. She worked as the Executive Secretary for the Tazewell County Zoning Department for eleven years, and also served as Interim Director. Norma and Joe were charter members of the Sunset Hills Country Club. She loved to travel, especially her trips to the Holy Land. Norma was the Christian County Spelling Bee Champion in 7th grade. She enjoyed reading, Bridge Club, golf and along with her partner, Virginia Monge, won their flight at the Best Ball Tournament at Sunset Hills Golf Course. Not only was she a homemaker, Norma was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother; and was known for her amazing meals, which gave her great gratification when preparing for her family and friends. Her family is convinced that Norma holds the record for attending the most sporting events watching Joe coach, her children compete and coach, and finally her grandchildren and great grandchildren compete. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception, 505 E 4th St, Delavan, IL on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 am with Monsignor Tim Nolan as celebrant. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am immediately prior to her Mass also at St. Marys Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pekin. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hopedale, IL or St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pekin, IL.
