Nina Schacherbauer, 71, of Manito, Illinois passed away at 7:30 am Sunday, May 29, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Nina was born in Peoria, IL on December 12, 1939 to Emil and Anna (Rossi) Gambetti. She married John Schacherbauer, Jr. on August 14, 1957. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard; and one brother, Peter Gambetti. Surviving are: her husband, John of Manito; two daughters, Julie (Richard) Gale of Green Valley and Jeanne (Denny) Hintz of Manito; one son, Ryan Schacherbauer of Manito; three sisters, Delores 'Dolly' Golden and Vaira Heininger both of Pekin, and Hazel Hamilton of Peoria; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was employed by the Tazewell County Board last working Thursday, May 19. She previously worked at the American Distillery, Dreyfuss Grain Corporation, Manito Review and Pekin Insurance. Nina was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pekin attending the Immaculate Conception Church of Manito. Nina true passion was writing the newsletter for the Pekin Chapter of Compassionate Friends and she organized several of their events. She was charter member for 49 years of the Spring Lake Unit II Home Extension. Nina also served as a Tazewell County Election Judge, a member of the Pekin Insurance Prime-Timer Retirees, and an active member of the Pekin High School Class of 1957 Reunion Committee. Some of Nina's interests included reading, writing, gardening, playing with her two dogs, putting puzzles together with her husband, and spending time with her family and friends. She looked forward to traveling along on the many 'Cousin's shopping trips' and made special memories on each one of them. Nina poured her heart and soul to the cause of Compassionate Friends by helping so many grieving families cope with the loss of their loved ones. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, June 2 at Immaculate Conception Church in Manito.Rev. David Whiteside will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin and from 9:00 am - 10:00 am Thursday at the church.
