Mural Devon 'Slim' Lowry, 99, of Pekin, IL passed away at 8:15 PM Monday, March 30, 2015 at Hallmark House Nursing Center. Slim was born on March 10, 1916 in Beardstown, IL to Charles Ernest and Grace Muriel (Yelch) Lowry. He married Margaret Hudson on November 5, 1949 in Pekin. She passed away on August 5, 2000. Also preceding in him death are his parents and one brother. Surviving are: one daughter, Joyce Hartman of Pekin; two grandchildren, Jim (Lisa) Hartman of Glasford, IL and Jeanette (Steve) Albrecht of Pekin; four great grandchildren, Caitlin, Victoria, Miranda and Walker Hartman; one sister, Rosalee Brune of Jacksonville, IL; one nephew, William (Kathy) Lowry of Carrolton, GA; two nieces, Ellen (Leon) Schieber of Morton, IL and Chris (Tony) Puri of Florham Park, NJ; and close friends, Ted (Helen) Hartman of Pekin. Slim was a craftsman and furniture repairman for Pfaffman Furniture in Peoria. He also worked at 14th Street Hardware for over 25 years. Slim was a WW II Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member BPOE #1271 and served as organist for many years. He was also a member of musician's union #AFM 301. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, April 3, 2015 at Lakeside Cemetery with Rev. Ron Little officiating. There will be no visitation. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
