Mary Helen Smith

Mary Helen Smith, 92, of Peoria, passed away at 5:40 AM, Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. She was born September 2, 1925 in Sardis, TN to Jess & Evie (Johnson) Minton. She married Samuel D. Smith on December 26, 1945 in Corinth, MS. He passed away December 13, 1989. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sam, grandson Richard Spencer; great-granddaughter, Kailyn Louis Spencer; two sisters, Raymel Dickson and Carrie Nell Moore, and one son-in-law, Robert Keller. She is survived by; one son, Franklin D. (Penny Williams) Spencer of Cahokia, IL; two daughters, Shirley Rodgers of Peoria Heights and Sherry Lynn Keller of North Pekin, nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and twenty seven great-great grandchildren. Mary was a member of the First Christian Church of Pekin. She enjoyed fishing, camping, soul food, and playing slots on the boat. She was a wonderful gardener, keeping up with her fruits and vegetables to the very end. Private family services will be held with burial at Glendale Memorial Gardens.
