Mary A. Gardner, 95, of Pekin, passed away peacefully at 6:19 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Proctor Place Senior Living in Peoria.
Born on August 12, 1930, in Pekin, Mary was the daughter of James and Nellie (Thompson) Paine. She married the love of her life, Dean Gardner.
Mary's greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly survived by her son, Michael (Amy Svymbersky) Gardner of Peoria; and her cherished grandchildren, Marian, Paul, and Sam, of Louisville, KY; two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Audrey Gardner, who will forever treasure her love, guidance, and unwavering support.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; four brothers; and five sisters.
Mary dedicated many years of service to Caterpillar as a secretary for 38 years, before her retirement in 1985. Known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and generous spirit, she remained active throughout her life and found great fulfillment in serving others. She was a faithful member of Pekin First United Methodist Church and devoted countless hours volunteering at Pekin Hospital and the Miller Senior Citizens Center. Through her volunteer work, Mary touched many lives and formed lasting friendships within her community.
Mary will be remembered for her warm smile, caring nature, and dedication to her family, church, and community. Her quiet strength, compassion, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory in Pekin. A Private Graveside service will be on Friday at Glendale Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell County Resource Center.
