Mary E. Claton

Mary E. Claton, 90, of Peoria, IL and formerly of Pekin, passed away quietly and peacefully at 5:45am, June 6, 2015 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. Mary was born on March 6, 1925, in Pekin, IL to Fred and Meta (Gerdes) Fahnders. She married Kenneth L. Claton on December 28, 1943, in Pekin. He passed away on April 29, 1977. Also preceding her in death are her parents, one brother, Mike Fahnders, one son-in-law, James Nichols and step granddaughter, Hannah Lulay. Surviving are: one daughter, Barbara K. Nichols of Peoria; step granddaughter, Jill Lulay of Pekin and step great grandson, Ryan Lulay of Pekin; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mary was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Missouri Synod Church. She was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin before transferring to St. John's Lutheran Church (Sand Prairie) in Green Valley. Mary and her husband farmed in Spring Lake Township for over 32 years. After his death she continued farming for fifteen more years. She also worked for her brother at Mike Fahnders Auction for 23 years.She loved her Lord, her family, her auction "buddies", her flowers and garden, fishing, children and music. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with Rev. Kevin Bueltmann and Bill Krueger officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. In Lieu of food and flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church (Sand Prairie) Green Valley, Good Shepherd Lutheran School or Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation.
