Mark K. Smith

Mark K. Smith, 69, of Pekin, IL passed away at 3:40 PM Friday, April 26, 2024 at his home. Mark was born August 19, 1954 in Peoria, IL to Julian Joseph and Eva Mae (McCaskey) Smith. He married Mary Gibbs on May 27, 1978 in Springfield, IL. Preceding in death are his parents and one brother, Richard Smith. Surviving are: his wife, Mary, of Pekin; two sons, Anthony (Lauren) Smith of Henry, IL and Matthew (Samantha) Smith of Peoria; six grandchildren, Declan, Rory, Finnian, Clara, Hagen and Rylynn; one sister, Stephanie Spencer of Harsens Island, MI. Mark was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School and Pekin Community High School. He attended Illinois Central College and Bradley University. Mark worked in data processing for many years until his desire to fix, build and restore led him to start his own business, Carpentry Solutions. Mark was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He organized many projects and improvements for the parish, but his biggest undertaking was designing and building the altar furniture. Mark enjoyed family, electronics, building and fixing. His motto was "There has to be a tool to do this better" and when he found it, he bought it. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 2, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Andrejek as Celebrant and Monsignor Timothy Nolan as Homilist. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM Wednesday, May 1st followed by the Chalice ceremony and then visitation will be from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.
