Marion J. Nelson

Marion J. Nelson, 91 of Pekin passed away at 11:40 pm Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Pekin Manor. Marion was born August 5, 1922 in Davenport Iowa to Alfred and Helen (Joens) Volkens.She married William Nelson September 5, 1947 in Peoria.He died February 2, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Carolyn Heitzman and Lois von Allmen. Marion is survived by three sons; Peter (Jan Hiatt) Nelson of Plymouth, Michigan, Hugh (Brenda Prowse) of Poulsbo, WA and Chris (Michele) Nelson of Pekin; four grandchildren, Tiffany Nelson, Tanya (Daniel) McIntosh, Alex Nelson and Tasha(Dustin)Moretto. Marion retired in 1987 as the Secretary to the Dean of education at Bradley University after 21 years of service . Marion was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin and Peoria.She volunteered at Proctor Hospital.She enjoyed sewing, knitting, golfing, genealogy and ball room dancing with her husband in earlier years. Marion and Bill also lived in Poulsbo, WA for six years. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 24, 2014 with visitation from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm prior to service at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin with Rev. Kathy Stoner Lasala officiating.Burial of cremated remains will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
