Marie C. Parker

October 13, 1937 — June 9, 2023

Marie C. Parker, 85, of Pekin, passed away at home on June 9, 2023. Marie was born on a farm in Spring Lake Township, the daughter of John and Karolina Streifinger Schacherbauer. She was delivered at home by the late Dr. Nelson Wright, Sr. Marie loved her memories of attending the one-room Dodds and Spring Lake country grade schools, which no longer exist. She graduated from Forman High School and attended Illinois State University. Employed by Pekin Insurance in the Accounting Department for a short while, she later began working at Herget National Bank and was head of the Savings Department for several years. It was there that she met her husband, Sid, of whom she dearly loved. They were married 64 years. Surviving are: her husband, Sid, son, Brad (Paula) and daughter, Lisa, all of Pekin. She is also survived by a grandson, Patrick (Brianna) Hughes of Pekin and granddaughters Amy (John) Nelson of Yale, MI., and Amanda (David) Dietrich of Pekin. She was also blessed with nephews Ryan Schacherbauer of Manito and Todd Parker of Georgia, along with nieces Julie Gale of Tremont, Jeanne (Denny) Hintz of Manito, and Angela Parker of Ashburn, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Steven, twin infant sisters, Ann and Jane, and her dear brother John Schacherbauer, Jr. She also had a special place in her heart for her brother-in-law, Ben Parker. Marie enjoyed hobbies of flower gardening, dried flowers, fishing, baking, music, pets, family life and all friends. Being a loving wife and mother was very important to her. She also enjoyed a lifetime of friendship with her pen pal and good friend, Grace Polk of New York, NY. She was truly grateful for everyone who touched her life in any way. She was an optimist, living the Golden Rule. Marie will be remembered for her sincerity, good nature, and warm smile. "Tomorrow is another day" was an expression used often by Marie. Maries parents were German immigrants, coming to America in the late 1920s. They met and married in the United States. After her parents passed away, Marie and her family flew to Frankfort, Germany, in 1980 and made their way to Bavaria in search of relatives. They found aunts, uncles, cousins and new friends that began a whole new life of building memories that are still on-going today.
