Mardell M. Petri

Mardell Mae Petri, 89 of Pekin, passed away at 11:55 am, Monday, September 14, 2015 at Pekin Hospital. Mardell was born June 13, 1926 in Fiatt, Illinois to Henry Edgar and Irma Lenore (Harper) Norman.She married Ernest N. Petri in Pekin, on March 9, 1947.He died May 21, 2001. She was also preceded by her parents, two brothers, Marvin and LaVerne Norman. Mardell is survived by one son, Joel Petri of Pekin; two daughters, Linda (Joseph) Svec of Chicago, IL and Jill (Philip) Peterson of Cleveland, MN; three grandchildren, Julia Peterson, Amy (Seth) Jacobson and Katie Peterson; two great grandchildren, Elsie and Isaac Jacobson. She had worked for Kueck's Funeral Home in Pekin; Farmers Auto Insurance Company in Pekin and last worked at Pekin Township where she set up and directed the Pekin Township Food Pantry and also directed The Food Share Program.She was a founding member and past president of Pekin Chapter of Delta Theta Tau National Philanthropic Sorority; Pekin Jr. Woman's Club vice president and secretary; charter member and past president of Sunset Hills Country Club's Women's 9-hole golf league. Mardell volunteered at Edison School as treasurer of the PTA and many times as a room mother. She was a member of Pekin Hospital Auxiliary 1965-1988 with many hours at the lobby desk, courier, flower and mail delivery service.She enjoyed genealogy, reading, and was an avid Cubs fan. Mardell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin with Rev. Gary Ford officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Thursday. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pekin Township Food Pantry 420 Elizabeth St., Pekin, IL 61554.
