Lyle D. Fawer, 84, of Pekin, passed away at 9:37 am Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. Lyle was born on March 4, 1933 to Frank and Lydia (Gauger) Fawer in Pekin, IL. He married Marilyn Bumgarner in Mackinaw, IL on July 1, 1955. She passed away October 23, 2007.He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Virgil Fawer; and sister, Verla Wieburg. Lyle is survived by two sons, Steve (Marcia) Fawer of Galesburg, IL, and David (Kim) Fawer of Perrysburg, OH; two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Weitekamp, and Lynne (Randy) Masters, both of Pekin; five grandchildren, Laura (Caleb) Smith of Groveland; Sarah (Neil Renaud) Weitekamp of Seattle, WA; Nicholas and Timothy Masters of Pekin; Tyler, Garrett, and Nathan Fawer of Perrysburg, OH; and two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Jonah Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a Newspaper Production Manager, dedicating over 50 years of service to the Pekin Daily Times and Galesburg Register-Mail. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. He was very progressive in the newspaper industry and installed the first computer system at the Pekin Daily Times. He served as the Chairman of the Galesburg Rescue Mission. He loved the outdoors, traveling, camping, and especially taking his grandchildren fishing. He was a faithful blood donor and was known for his good-natured sense of humor. Most of all, he loved studying and sharing God's word in teen and adult Bible studies. His funeral service will be Monday, September, 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Drive, Pekin, IL. with Rev. Dave Scholl officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Monday before the funeral from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin with Military Honors provided by the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the Galesburg Rescue Mission, or a charity of donor's choice.
