Lorraine A. Hancock

Lorraine Alberta (Hoffert) Hancock, 93, of Pekin, IL passed away at 7:53 AM Thursday, April 05, 2012 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Lorraine was born on October 24, 1918 to Edward H. and Mabel P. (Goodman) Hoffert.She married Thomas S. Hancock, her high school sweetheart, on April 19, 1942. Preceding her in death were; her parents, her husband, her sister, Betty Jouvenaux and an infant daughter, Susan Jane. She is survived by her two daughters:Sue Ann (Jack) Kortkamp and Nancy Jane Healy as well as three grandchildren:Kimberly Kortkamp, Thomas Kortkamp & Brendon Healy. She is also survived by a niece, Nancy Ann McMullen and a nephew, Tim O'Donnell as well as several cousins and her very special caregiver, 'Toy' Brashears. Lorraine lived in her childhood home at 322 Park Ave.She graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1936 and then attended Brown's Business school.Afterwards she worked at the American Distillery.With her husband, Tom, she co-owned Hancock Grocery. Then she worked for Tom's cousin, Bernard Happach at 14th St. Market and 14th St. Hardware where she retired after working for over 25 years. Lorraine was a member of the 'Y' Reserves and the Pilot Club of Pekin.She was especially proud of her membership with the Pilots when they built the fountain in the sunken garden at the Pekin Park. She enjoyed doing needle point and knitting beautiful afghans. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune & doing word find puzzles. She will be fondly remembered for her sweetness, her kind heart and great smile. She was a friend to everyone she met. Lorraine was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 7, 2012 with Rev. Dwight Borden officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin. Memorials may be made to: St. Paul Church, 801 N. Eighth Street or a charity of your choice.
