Leona G. Brecher

Leona G. Brecher, 96, of rural Pekin passed away at 5:15 PM Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center of East Peoria. Leona was born on May 24, 1915 in Pekin to Vernon Paul and Norma (Reeder) Bastian. She married Theodore R. Brecher on September 11, 1946 in Pekin. He died on October 26, 1984. Also preceding in death are her parents and one sister, LaVerne Werner. Surviving is: one son, Frederic R. Nolte of Port Charlotte, FL; three grandchildren, Debra Escamilla and Dorla Hanssen both of Davenport, Iowa and Frederic R.Nolte Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL; several great grandchildren;two nephews, Mark (Amy) Werner of Pekin and Warren Werner of Denver, CO; two nieces, Gale (Joseph) Yagel of Batavia, IL and Christina Werner of Denver, CO;. Leona attended Zion Evangelical United Methodist Church. She volunteered for St. Jude for sixteen years and was an election judge for 52 years. She enjoyed farming with her husband in earlier years. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, July 18, 2011 at Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin. The Rev. Dan Lybarger will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Zion Evangelical United Methodist Cemetery.
