Lester Larry Wheeler, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, in Peoria, Illinois, at the age of 87. Born on December 2, 1937, in East Peoria, Illinois, Lester lived a life filled with unique experiences, deep connections, and a passion for the things he loved. Known affectionately by many as "Junkman," Lester made a career out of what he loved to do "junking." He was known for traveling vast distances to pick up scrap metal, a testament to his resourcefulness and dedication to his craft. His adventures in junking brought him into contact with countless people throughout the years, leaving behind stories and memories that will be cherished by those who knew him. Though he faced challenges like many in life, Lester's heart was always open. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Lee Wheeler, who passed away in 2014. Lesters surviving family includes his daughters, Hollie Jo Wheeler (Bradley Tucek) Of Creve Coeur, Paula Jean Wheeler of Laura, Illinois, Alison Osbourne of Peoria, Illinois and his son, Nicholas Joe Wheeler Also of Creve Coeur, and many cherished grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews Of both Lester & Tina's sides of the family. Lester ("Larry") had a special bond with his daughter Hollie, often speaking of her with immense pride. In fact, she was the only contact he ever saved in his phonea testament to the deep love he held for her. Lester's relationships extended beyond family. Though he and his ex-wife, Tina Marie Wheeler [Morris] had divorced years prior, they remained wonderful friends. Tina stood by his side during his later years, providing support and comfort. His son-in-law, Steve Platt, was a lifelong friend who brought joy and laughter into his life. Additionally, Lester appreciated the care and company he also got from his caregiver, Denise McCoy who he met Months prior to his departure. "Larry", A lover of simple pleasures, found joy in the company of his beloved black lab, Sabrina, more than anything - she followed him everywhere, she will undoubtedly miss her loyal companion. He lived life on his terms, showing a spirit that was both stubborn and resilient. Even in his later years, he continued to embrace his passion for junking until illness prompted him to slow down. Lester's life will be celebrated in a private funeral service, with details of a pending Celebration of Life to be announced. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
