Klyce F. Tavernier, 91, of East Peoria, IL formerly of Pekin passed away at 6:18 PM Sunday, January 29, 2012 in Manor Care at Riverview in East Peoria. Klyce was born November 8, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa to Raymond and Edna M. (Marquard) Tavernier. He married Eula Mae Johnson on September 23, 1945. She died on October 4, 2011. Also preceding in death are his parents, one grandson, Michael Given and one brother, Raymond Tavernier. Surviving is: one son, John (Pam) Tavernier of Fredrick, IL; one daughter, Judy (Bob) Given of Pekin; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Banks, Sean (Erin) Tavernier, Allison and Meagan Given; three great grandchildren, Joseph Tavernier, Mason and Ryan Banks; one brother, Robert (Ruth) Tavernier of St. Paul, MN. Klyce was employed by Carver Lumber in Peoria for 28 years retiring in 1985. He then went to work for the Pekin Park District and was the main carpenter for the renovation to the Pavilion. Klyce was a WW II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member and former trustee of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin. He also was a member of William Schaefer Post #44 American Legion, Teamsters Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and a former Scout Master. Private graveside services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Glendale Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn Niemann. There will be no visitation. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin. Memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge 2125 Veterans Road Morton, IL 61550 where his granddaughter, Allison resides.
