Kenneth H. Petri Jr., 90, of Pekin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 8:45 AM on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his devoted family. Ken’s life was a testament to hard work, community service, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

Born on June 25, 1935, in Pekin, Illinois, to Kenneth H. Petri Sr. and Emmaline (Engle) Petri, Ken was a lifelong resident of the community he cherished. On September 16, 1956, he married the love of his life, Karleen Jagla, in Pekin. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with shared memories and a strong family bond that endured for nearly seven decades.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Darolde Petri, fondly known as “Miter” and sister-in-law, Betty Petri.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Karleen, of Pekin; two sons, James Petri (Mark) of Long Beach, California, and David (Jenny) Petri of Seminole, Florida; two daughters, Janet (Jacob) Martin of Pekin and Diane (Randy) Cook of Channahon, Illinois; five grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Martin, Renee (Garrett) Forkner, Beth (Trevor) Vandell, Bryan (Ali) Cook, and Declyn Petri; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Forkner, Greyson, Emma, Wyatt, and Theo Martin, and Everly Cook, Layla and Lexie Wenckowski; one sister, Joy (David) Gilliland of Jacksonville, Florida; and one niece and three nephews.

Ken dedicated 38 years of his career to the Pekin Daily Times as a skilled printer, retiring in 1990 due to the loss of his eyesight. His commitment to serving his community continued as he took on the role of bailiff at the Tazewell County Courthouse (24 years), where his integrity and warmth left a lasting impression. A man of faith, Ken was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and fellowship. He was also an active member of the BPO Elks Lodge #1270, reflecting his deep ties to the Pekin community.

Known for his kind heart, quick wit, and love for his family, Ken’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched. Whether sharing stories with his grandchildren, supporting local causes, or simply enjoying time with Karleen, Ken’s presence brought joy and strength to those around him.

Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Lakeside Cemetery, with Pastor Sean Peters officiating. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with Ken’s arrangements.
