Kay Lorraine Lesko, 68 of Pekin, passed away at 8:02 pm on October 12, 2021 at UnityPoint Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria with her husband and daughter at her side. She was born to Richard N. & Doris (Beebe) Gumbel on June 5, 1953 in Pekin. She married Michael Lesko on July 12, 1975 in Pekin. He survives. In 1982 Kay and Mike were blessed with their daughter Anne. She is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Anne (David) Kaczmarek, mother Doris Gumbel, sister Sue (Mervin) Roth, grandchildren Connor, Abbi, and Ben Kaczmarek, her mother-in-law Marjorie Lesko, sister-in-law Andrea Lesko, niece and nephews, and her dear chum and sidekick, Buddy the Schnoodle dog. She was preceded in death by her father. Kay taught 4th and 5th grade in Marquette Heights and North Pekin schools, retiring after a 35 year career. She truly loved helping her students learn. Kay graduated from the International School of Brussels, Belgium and held both bachelor and Master degrees from Illinois State University. She was a former member of Second Reformed Church. Kay loved to travel and especially enjoyed her vacation cruises. She also looked forward to the retired teachers luncheons and shared lunches with her good friend Linda Dexter. But most of all, she liked being a Mom and Nana to her grandchildren. Kay, was a warm, caring soul who always put others needs above her own. May she be welcomed into Gods loving Kingdom of Heaven. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr, Pekin with Pastor Heather Robertson officiating. A visitation will be held immediately prior from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, also at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded after the service with private inurnment at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, T.A.P.S. or the American Red Cross. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the American Red Cross for making all the arrangements for Kays grandson Connor, stationed with the US Army in Okinawa Japan, to fly home to see his grandmother one last time before she passed.
