Katherine Sheehan

Katherine Elizabeth Sheehan, 78 of Pekin passed away at 5:55 am, Sunday August 22, 2021 at UnityPoint Hospital, Pekin. She was born in Aurora, IL to James J. and Katherine (Malenski) McGovern on April 30, 1943. She married Jerry Sheehan on August 13, 1966 in Aurora IL. He survives. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, and youngest sister, Jennifer. She is also survived by her son, Jerry Sheehan of San Diego CA and two daughters, Kelly (Clayton) Walenta of Peoria IL and Mary Jo (John) Sarff of Pekin IL; Six Grandchildren, Alena Shelton of Chicago, IL, Russell, Riley and Phoenix Sarff of Pekin and Grace and Benjamin Walenta of Peoria; two brothers, Tom McGovern of Maryland and John (Sharon) McGovern of Arizona; four sisters, Terry (Dean) Trumper and Mary McGovern of Oswego, Barbara Gormley and Bridgett Paluska of California. Katherine was a member of St Joseph Church in Pekin. Before taking a full-time job as stay-at-home mother, she worked as a beautician. She volunteered at Pekin Hospital for 30 years. Katherine enjoyed hosting family celebrations, attending her childrens and grandchildrens sporting and school events and traveling, going to Peoria Player plays, theater, shopping and dining with her friends. As per Katherines wishes, her body has been donated to the advancement of science to help medical students learn. A private memorial Mass for family and friends will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Andrejek as celebrant on Wednesday, August 25th. There will be a graveside service once Katherines remains are returned with burial in St Joseph Cemetery in Pekin. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with Katherines arrangements.
