Joseph Meyers

Joseph Alois Meyers, 90, of Green Valley, IL passed away at 12:45 PM Friday, May 26, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria of congestive heart failure. He was born November 20, 1926 in Pekin Hospital to Ray J. and Lorraine (Becker) Meyers. He married Dolland Price on December 8, 1972 in Pekin. She survives. Joe was the fifth generation of farmers immigrated from Bern, Switzerland. He attended Green Valley schools and graduated from Elmhurst College with a degree in chemistry. He became a farmer at the request of his grandfather, Joseph A. Meyers the 1st. He and Dolland continued their life after being married in the house that was a wedding present to his parents. Joe and Dolland had no children, but loved several nieces and nephews who were like their children. To a person, when the name of Joe Meyers is mentioned, they respond not to his accomplishments, but to the person himself. This is Joe's legacy. Funeral services will be Monday, May 29, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr., Pekin with Pastor Doug Habegger officiating. Private burial with military honors will be in Green Valley Cemetery.
