John Yentes

John H. 'Bud' Yentes, 97, of Pekin passed away at 2:50 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 at Hopedale Hospital in Hopedale, IL. Bud was born July 28, 1917 in Spring Lake Township, Tazewell County, Illinois to John and Ina (Stout) Yentes. He married Betty Parker on August 24, 1941 in Pekin. She passed away November 11, 2001. Also preceding in death are his parents, three brothers and one sister. Surviving is: one son, John A. Yentes of Pekin; one daughter, Barbara J. Sours of Pekin; one grandson, Jeff A. (Lisa) McGuinness of Leadville, CO; four step grandchildren, Dirk (Janelle)Sours, Mark Sours, Tanya (Eric) Swearingen and Tasha (Mike) Tumilty all of Pekin; ten great grandchildren. Bud was a veteran of United States Army serving during the World War II. He worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years retiring in 1977 as a foreman. Bud was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Churchmen's Brotherhood. He was also a member of Pekin Moose Lodge #916 and a former member of Elks Lodge #1271. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling. For 20 years after his retirement he and his wife, Betty worked as volunteers maintaining the hiking trails at the Dirksen and McNaughton parks for the Pekin Park District. They also coordinated the use of the trails by Boy Scout troops statewide. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Brian Byrne officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Monday at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
