John H. Sweeney

John H. Sweeney, 81, of Pekin passed away at 4:25 pm Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 2400 N. 8th St., Pekin. John was born July 27, 1926 in St. Louis, MO to Lewis E. and Cora A. Mendenhall Sweeney.He married Alpha Daphiene Davis in 1946 she passed away August 24, 1965.He later married Joann Dixon in December 1965.They were married until 1983. Surviving are two sons: John W.(Lee) Sweeney of Pekin, John H. (Claudette)Sweeney Jr. of South Pekin; six daughters: Judith A. Coy of Independence, MO, Linda M. Frye of Topeka, Beverly K. (John) Donaho of South Pekin, Zoa A. (Kelly) Sweeney-List of Canton, Stacey (Antonio) Garcia and Rebecca Sweeney both of Beardstown; sixteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Alpha, two brothers, one niece and one nephew. John retired in 1986, after 24 years, as an operator with Sherex Chemical. John was a WWII South Pacific Navy Veteran. He was a life member of Roy L. King Post 1232 of VFW of Pekin. He was also a member of Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers of America.John was an avid wood worker.He also enjoyed playing dominos with his friends. He was a member of South Pekin Congregational Church.
