John "Jack" O'Shaughnessy

John J. 'Jack' O'Shaughnessy, 86 of Pekin, IL passed away at 12:30 PM Sunday, January 10, 2016 at his home. Jack was born on November 19, 1929 in Peoria, IL to Martin J. and Pauline T. (Roeger) O'Shaughnessy. He married Mary Carty on June 22, 1957 in Peoria. His parents and two brothers precede him in death. Surviving are: his wife, Mary of Pekin; three sons, Kevin (Debbie) O'Shaughnessy of Manito, Michael (Shanna) O'Shaughnessy of Pekin, and Patrick (Trish) O'Shaughnessy of Peoria; two daughters, Mary (Bernard) Knapp of Peoria and Susan (Mark) Wilder of Pekin; fifteen grandchildren; and two epic stories of a hole-in-one on his favorite golf course. Jack was a Pharmacist and owner of Plaza Pharmacy in Pekin for decades. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Butler University, the Pekin Country Club and the Central Illinois Pharmacists Association. Since his retirement, Jack remained active and feisty so long as his coffee maker worked and the morning paper was delivered on time.He treasured his daily skirmishes with the Sudoku, Jumble, and Cryptoquote puzzles as well as how much he could relate to the Crankshaft and Pickles comic strips as the years went on.His near-daily trips to Kroger in search of something he saw in an advertisement are also stories of legend. Jack enjoyed golf, gardening and displaying crafts at area shows with his wife, Mary. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and following their many different activities.He touched many lives in his family and community with his wit, wisdom, generosity, and love.He will be missed. Jack was also a long-time sufferer of the condition known as 'Cubs Fever.' A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30 PM Thursday, January 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Andrejek officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 13 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory 2131 Velde Dr. Pekin. Additional visitation will be from 1:30 PM - 2:15 PM on Thursday at the church. Burial will be St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
