John Gilbert Myers

John Gilbert Myers, 75 of Pekin passed away after a five year battle with lung cancer at 7:00 am, Monday, June 26, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. He was born to Granville and Edith (DeLancey) Myers on December 14, 1947 in Oelwein, IA. He married Patricia Bottjen on March 31, 1993 in Elk Point, SD. She survives. John was preceded in death by; his parents; two brothers, Gifford Myers, and James Myers; and one sister, Barbara Ann Hahn. He is survived by; one son, Christopher Lawson of Bristow, VA; one daughter, Michelle (Bryan) Little of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Lillian, and Lexi Lawson, Adeline, Lawson, Lincoln and Eloise Little; and two sisters, Rosalee Smith of Marshall Town, IA, and Julia Faust of Strawberry Point, IA, and many nieces and nephews. John worked as an over the road Truck Driver, learning to drive a truck as a boy in the Oil Fields of California. He was awarded numerous safe driver awards over the years. He enjoyed fishing, working and gardening his yard. He loved going to small town festivals and always joked, "He was just here for the food". In his younger years he enjoyed truck driving across the country with his beautiful wife. While not of blood, he loved his children dearly and fiercely. Later in life, his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren and going to their sporting events. He especially loved baseball with his grandsons. John was a member of First Baptist Church, 700 S. Capital St in Pekin where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 10, 2023 with Rev. Brad Martin officiating. A visitation will be immediately prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, also at the church with a meal immediately following. Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
