John McCord, 66, of East Peoria, IL passed away at 7:53 PM Saturday, July 14, 2018 at UnityPoint Health - Methodist in Peoria. He was born June 13, 1952 to Jackie Lee and Bonnie (Reynolds) McCord in Peoria. He married Darlene Houston on December 23, 1985 in East Peoria. She survives. John was preceded in death by his mother; step-mother, Olene McCord, and one brother-in-law, Ron Taylor. He is survived by; his father Jackie; his wife Darlene; three sons, Johnathan (Mirna) McCord of San Antonio, TX, Toby McCord of Pekin, William (Samantha) McCord, currently stationed in Ukiah, CA; one daughter, Crystal Hankins of Peoria; five grandchildren, Miranda McCord, Urijah Hankins, Charlize Hankins, Elizabeth McCord, and Charlotte McCord; three brothers, Glenn (Shirley) McCord of Venice Beach, FL, Walter (Cathy) McCord of Morton, James McCord of Mapleton; and two sisters, Cathy (David) McCloud of Busnell, IL, and Jacqueline Taylor of Delavan, IL. John served in the United States Marines, receiving the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service as both a Fire Team Leader and Squad Leader in combat actions during the Vietnam War. He participated in five major combat operations including Operation Upshur Stream and Operation Hoang Dieu, as well as over two hundred night ambushes. He worked as a foundry repairman for Caterpillar for 30 years, retiring in 2009. John enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing, and projects including restoring old cars. He never turned down a request for help, especially with neighbors and extended family. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, they were always his first priority. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday July 18, 2018 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2131 Velde Dr, Pekin with Rev. Tim Beddingfield officiating with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corp and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. A visitation will be held two hours prior, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM also on Wednesday at the funeral home. John loved flowers and the family will happily accept them from friends and family.
