John Patrick Joyce Jr. (Pat Joyce) born November 10, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on August 30, 2025.

Pat grew up in Oak Park, IL, was the second oldest of seven siblings, attended Fenwick High School, and graduated from Loyola University in Chicago. He met his beloved wife, Janice, while at Loyola. They married in 1969 while attending law school, graduating in 1972. In 1973, Pat and Janice moved to Springfield, Illinois, where they built their life together and raised their family. For over 50 years, Pat called the Springfield area home.

He was a longtime member of St. James Parish in Riverton, IL, St. Agnes Parish in Springfield, IL, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Marian council 3914.

Pat dedicated 49 years to practicing law with Brown Hay & Stephens, LLP, one of Illinois’ oldest and most respected law firms. From 1974 until his retirement in 2023, Pat's distinguished career was marked by exceptional service to his clients and meaningful relationships with his colleagues. Following retirement, Pat enjoyed peaceful days with Janice on their horse farm near Delavan, IL.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice; their four children: Andrew Craig Joyce (Diana) of Green Oaks, IL, and their children Eren and John; Josh Joyce (Liane) of Goodyear, AZ, and their son Dylan; Aaron Joyce (Kathleene) of Crystal Lake, IL, and their daughters Addy, Emme, and Grayce; and Aubrey Dell (Jason) of Gaithersburg, MD, and their daughters Nola and Elouisa (LuLu). Pat was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren.

Pat’s life was defined by his dedication to law and devotion to family. He was known throughout his career as a successful, hardworking professional, and remembered by his loved ones as generous, honest, genuine, and caring—a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed; the memories he created with family and friends will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Pat’s life will be held later this year.
