Joanne K. Stewart

JoAnne K. Stewart, 71, of Mapleton, IL passed away at 5:15 PM Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL, with her loving family by her side. JoAnne was born to Walter and Mary (Frailey) Vogel. She married Leonard Stewart on February 18, 1962, in Pekin, IL. She was preceded in death by her father, mother-in-law, Margaret Stewart, father-in-law, Corbie Stewart, two brother-in-laws, one sister-in-law and one niece. Surviving is: her husband, Leonard, of Mapleton, IL;her mother, Mary of Pekin; one son, Scott (Gail) Stewart of Menasha, WI; one daughter, Sharyl (Mike) Nuske of Morton, IL; one granddaughter, Jenna (Scott) Buffington of Morton, IL; one step granddaughter, Becky Montonati of Menasha, WI; four great grandchildren, Kent and Seandon Buffington, Wyatt Schaller and Lucy Montonati; one brother, Terry (Donna) Vogel of Tremont, IL; one sister, Marilyn Rakestraw of North Pekin, IL; many nieces and nephews, and very special friends, Janet Tennel, Linda Young and Georgie Schuler all of Pekin. She was a 1960 graduate of Pekin High School. JoAnne retired from Caterpillar in 1999 as an Employee Benefits Representative. JoAnne was a very active member of the Community United Church of Christ in Morton. She volunteered in numerous charitable community activities including Morton Relay for Life. She participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for several years. Her greatest joy in life was being a Grandma . . . Jenna was the light of her life! JoAnne's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Prager and her staff at Illinois CancerCare, the staff at OSF Hospice, the staff at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, and JoAnne's very special friends, Janet, Linda & Georgie who spent countless hours with her during doctor's appointments and treatments.These three ladies are the true definition offriends. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Community United Church of Christ in Morton with Rev. Jeff Johnston officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at the church. Inurnment will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory have been entrusted with JoAnne's arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois CancerCare Foundation,8940 N. Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615-7828.
